Cascoland Rio de Janeiro
This first Cascoland project in Rio is part of a trajectory leading to a Cascoland intervention in Rio in 2014.
The trajectory proposes to research the development of public spaces in urban areas in Rio de Janeiro. Can un(der)used or neglected spaces in these areas become neutral accessible public spaces? Added objective is to investigate how the World Cup Football 2014 in Brazil can become a catalyst in this process of improving the use of public spaces.
We want to start this trajectory with the project Cascoland Rio 2012 to connect and develop a relationship with local creatives, communities and organizations and prepare for a collaboration during the World Cup 2014 when the whole world’s attention is focused on Brazil. Cascoland draws from previous experience in activating an empty football stadium in collaboration with the community of Mafikeng during the World cup football 2010 in South Africa.
Cascoland Rio 2012 will take place between November 15th and December 15th 2012. Through actual on location interdisciplinary interventions in public space we want to research locations and partners and execute a collaborative intervention in a still to be defined urban area in Rio de Janeiro.
